In 1984, discotheques were an accepted part of the American nightclub scene. Hairstyles ran the gamut from mullets to the feathered Farrah Faucet look. The film “Footloose” captured the excitement and raw joy of dancing. Its impact ranged from bedroom wall posters to the music played at drive-in restaurants.

Brentwood Teen Theater presents its final performances of the musical based on “Footloose” on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 and 7 p.m. in The Theater at Edna Hill, 140 Birch St. in Brentwood.

The show stars Nick Kamalakis of Brentwood in the role of Ren McCormack. Kamalakis worked in the stage crew last spring for the Brentwood Teen Theater production of “Mulan.” He liked what he saw and got involved in the Broadway Under The Stars productions of “Oklahoma” and “Brigadoon.” Now, someone else is pulling the curtains and rolling scenery around for him.

The production features a cast of actors ages 10 to 19 under the direction of Steve Kinsella and choreographed by Jillian Butler and Kinsella. The score contains an array of musical styles, from rock to line dancing country songs.

Climaxing a 14-week training program in which young actors learn confidence training, singing, acting and dancing, “Footloose” features 32 actors and a five-piece orchestra. It’s appropriate for audience members 5 and older.
