Deer Valley, by virtue of winning the league season championship and league tournament, will field its full squad at Monday morning’s match, held at the Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill.
Others needed the help of a strong performance at the recent NCS qualifier meet.
Heritage junior Ryan Bell will represent the Patriots on Monday after shooting an 82 in Pleasant Hill. Liberty senior Paul Krey also advanced, carding a score of 80.
But while the two other BVAL representatives at the qualifier meet performed admirably, they will not move on. Antioch sophomore Josh Mouzakis finished with 88, while Freedom junior David White just missed the cut with 84.
Heritage 6, Antioch 2
The Heritage varsity baseball team continued its undefeated league season on Tuesday with a 6-2 victory over Antioch. Junior pitcher Paul Blackburn turned in a stellar performance for the Patriots, striking out 10 Panthers in a complete-game effort. Heritage scored two runs in the first inning, two more in the fourth and two in the seventh. Antioch got on the board once in the second inning, on a solo home run by Shaquille Sayles, and again in the fifth.
Freedom 6, Liberty 0
Behind an outstanding effort on both sides of the plate from junior pitcher Joe Navilhon, Freedom blanked Liberty 6-0 on Tuesday. Navilhon fanned nine, walking only one in a complete-game victory. He also went 1-for-2 and notched an RBI. Junior catcher Scott Harris drove in three of the Falcons’ runs. Lions junior catcher Zach Finley finished 1-for-3 including a double, the lone extra-base hit for Liberty.
Antioch 1, Heritage 0
Antioch made a strong case for the BVAL title on Tuesday in a 1-0 win over rival Heritage. The two teams are racing with defending champion Freedom for the high spot. Junior outfielder Morgan Perry drove in the game-winning run in the sixth inning. Senior pitcher Paris Imholz put forth another incredible pitching performance, whiffing 14 Patriots in a complete-game, two-hit shutout. Her counterpart, junior pitcher Lisa Rodrigues struck out two, but was stuck with the loss.
Freedom 6, Liberty 0
Freedom scored early and often in a 6-0 victory over Liberty on Tuesday. Falcons sophomore pitcher Madison Williams struck out 11, walking just one and allowing two hits in a complete-game victory. Senior centerfielder Malena Padilla and senior second baseman Katie Wood each went 3-for-4 in the win.
Deer Valley 12, Pittsburg 5
A seven-run second inning propelled Deer Valley to a 12-5 win over Pittsburg on Tuesday. Senior outfielder Staci Howard finished 2-for-2, scored two runs and stole a base.
The Heritage High School boys basketball program is hosting its seventh annual basketball camp for boys in grades three through eight. The camp runs June 6 though 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Heritage High School. The camp, which focuses on fundamentals and fun, is one of the program’s major fundraisers and community service events. Each camper receives individual and small-group instruction on all phases of the game including sportsmanship and teamwork – as well as a Heritage basketball camp T-shirt.
The camp is directed and taught by Heritage head coach Pat Cruickshank, assistant varsity coach Dave Winthrop, and Patriots basketball players. Coaches Cruickshank and Winthrop bring more than 40 years of coaching experience at the youth, high school, AAU and international level. The fee is $100.
