Barbara Jane McGinnis, 88, passed in her sleep from congestive heart failure on Feb. 15 at Sutter Delta Memorial Hospital in Antioch.

Barbara was born Oct. 15, 1922 in Richmond to the late Samuel (retired Richmond Fire Department battalion chief) and Dorothy Davidson. She was sister to the late Charles Davidson and JoAnn MacDonald, and married to the late Charles McGinnis, retired Richmond fireman.

Barbara was the loving mother of five children – Roger Sierra of Marin County; Robert McGinnis, deceased; David McGinnis, deceased; Linda Gibbons of Brentwood; and Michael McGinnis of Grass Valley. She is survived by 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Barbara and Chuck enjoyed many years of retirement together, building homes in Truckee and Nevada City and residing in Penn Valley. After Chuck’s passing, Barbara moved to Summerset in Brentwood. She enjoyed the company of family and friends, ceramics, playing the piano, gardening, crossword puzzles, BINGO and penny slots. She had been a clerk/secretary for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in Brentwood, and school districts in Richmond, Sheldon, Tahoe, Truckee and Nevada County.

A celebration of her life will be held in Nevada County in May. Correspondence may be directed to the family at P.O. Box 611, Brentwood, CA 94513. Donations in Barbara’s honor may be made to the charity of your choice.
