Millbrae Art & Wine Festival
Sept. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The “Big Easy” comes to Millbrae for this huge Labor Day weekend event as more than 100,000 festivalgoers transform downtown into a Mardi Gras-style feast featuring two days of live music from headliners The Sun Kings, Evolution, Replica and Delta Wires. The fest hosts a juried show attracting 250 professional artists and craftmakers, plus festive food and drink, premium wines, microbrews, margaritas and mojitos, artisan specialty food and a microbrew tasting tent. Organic and green products arte showcased, plus home and garden exhibits, health and wellness displays, the Classically Cool Car Show and myriad amusements in Playland. Admission is free.

Mountain View Art & Wine Festival
Sept. 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Silicon Valley’s world-class art and music multicultural celebration features 600 professional artists and craftmakers, live music on stage and street throughout downtown from headliners The Groove Kings, Ruckatan, The Rhythm Vandals, The Boys of Summer and the Comcast Pigskin Party Lounge. Mountain View’s bash includes giant-screen TV, festive food and drink, premium wines, microbrews, sangria, mimosas, mojitos and margaritas and artisan specialty-food purveyors. Organic and green products are showcases, plus health and wellness displays and home and garden exhibits. Up-and-coming performers strut their showstopping stuff on the Community Stage and kids enjoy the action-packed Kids’ Park, featuring a climbing wall, bungee jump, hula hooping, carnival rides and body art. Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-off
Half Moon Bay, Oct. 8 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Superstar gourd growing greats and their titanic orange orbs gather in the world pumpkin capital. For the first time, a special $25,000 bonus prize will be awarded to any grower that brings the world’s first 1-ton pumpkin and breaks the world record. A host of accomplished veteran growers contend for the coveted title and the 1-ton prize. In a pay-by-the-pound system, the winner takes home a hefty $6 per pound for the champion mega-pumpkin. The grand champion gourd (along with the top five overall) will be on display on Main Street at the Art & Pumpkin Festival (see below) Oct. 13 and 14.

Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival
Oct. 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The world pumpkin capital of Half Moon Bay celebrates its bountiful fall harvest and autumn splendor with a special display of gigantically enormous, heavyweight champion pumpkins, plus three stages of non-stop live music, the Great Pumpkin Parade and a bone-chilling haunted house. The fest also features harvest-inspired crafts, homestyle foods, world-class pumpkin carver Farmer Mike sculpting a 1,200-pound pumpkin, photos with the grand champion mega-gourd, pie-eating and costume contests, pumpkin carving for fun (not a contest), Smashing Pumpkins: Battle of the Bands, the Take 5 Lounge with giant screen TV, festival-label wine and Mavericks Pumpkin Harvest Ale.
