Under a brilliant moon and clear skies, participants in the Discovery Bay Lighted Boat Parade celebrated the spirit of the season last weekend during the community’s annual water-based show.

“We had a terrific turnout,” said Event Organizer Linda Loveland. “People put so much effort into their entries, and it was as much fun to watch the parties from the boats as it was to watch the boats from the parties.”

Hosted by the Discovery Bay Yacht Club, this year’s Toys for Children theme attracted 18 entries from club and non-club members alike, who outdid themselves in a spectacular display of ingenuity, imagination and inspiration.

Yacht Club member and CSD Director Mark Simon, a longtime attendee of the Discovery Bay boat parade, agreed this year’s entries and spectators were some of the parade’s finest.

“I can tell you that this year I witnessed more enthusiasm and team spirit than at any parade in the past,” said Simon. “The boats were fantastic, the crowds were totally in party mode and you couldn’t buy an empty seat at the yacht club during the awards. This was by far one of the most enjoyable parades I’ve ever seen.”

Decorated boats included pirate ships, Santa sleighs, flying reindeer and entries festooned with Christmas trees, gift-wrapped packages, candy canes and snowflakes.

“It was a great evening,” said Loveland. “Everyone had a great time.”

The Yacht Club’s next big event is the Opening Day Parade in April. For more information, call Chet or Linda Loveland at 925-516-7286.

Beautiful boats, reminds me of something you would see at Disneyland.
