Brentwood City Manager Donna Landeros and Community Development Director Casey McCann have announced the hiring of Alex Greenwood as the city’s economic development/planning manager.

“It is imperative that the City of Brentwood continues our partnership with our businesses,” said Landeros. “We need to help them survive this recession and be poised to recover as the economy improves. Alex is a very talented professional who will help guide our efforts.”

The Economic Development and Planning divisions have recently merged and this new position replaces the two manager positions which have been vacant since February of 2009. The divisions were merged to provide excellent customer service and retain economic development as a high priority for the city. This was re-emphasized by the City Council at its recent goal-setting session in February.

Alex Greenwood began his career at the City of Oakland as a management analyst and served as a project manager, a downtown coordinator and ultimately the urban economic coordinator. He also spent time with the San Diego Redevelopment Agency managing a 1,360-acre redevelopment area.

Greenwood comes to Brentwood from Concord, where he worked as economic development manager since 2008, coordinating citywide economic development efforts including policy analysis, marketing, press and community outreach, development agreements, and local business seminars and assistance.

Greenwood received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Duke University and a master’s in Public administration from UC Berkeley. He will begin working for the city on April 26.
