Infineon Raceway’s recent seventh annual NHRA Tour De Charity event featured veteran NHRA Top Fuel driver and Brentwood native David Baca – pilot of the Mach 1 Global Services Dragster – as one of the three professional NHRA drivers participating.

“This is such a great way to raise money for the children,” said Baca. “I’ve been known to get a little crazy with these things in the past, but my buddy (Gary) Scelzi isn’t competing this year, so it’ll probably be a little cleaner than years past – but I’m not sure if I can trust (Rod) Fuller quite yet.”

Rod Fuller, who was Baca’s teammate for a short time in 2007, and Hillary Will, a native of Eureka – both NHRA Top Fuel pilots – joined Baca. The fans were treated to autographs, lunch and a timed 10-lap race at the end of the day for a grand prize.

All proceeds benefited Children’s Speedway Charities, whose mission is to support children in educational, financial, social and medical need in order to help them lead productive lives.

Baca has aligned himself with many charities in the past, including Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Susan G. Komen for The Cure, Jerry’s Kids, The Muscular Dystrophy Association, and Hunter’s Hope.

“I like to use every chance I get to support charities and causes close my heart,” said Baca. “Being on the circuit again gives me the opportunity to put a spotlight on those in need and hopefully get people motivated to help, donate and volunteer.”
