First off, I have been reading all the Walmart articles over the past several weeks and have to comment. I have to say I agree with Pearl Stredni, who commented on the downtown palms, when read before they were $16,000 each.

I just thought: how insanely ridiculous. As for Walmart, I’ve worked for a large union retail company for the past 33 years, and 12 of those years down the street from the Antioch Walmart. I agree with Kristin Villyard; she is correct: one of the reasons I don’t like Walmart is because of increased crime. My store was always getting shoplifted in front of us.

My other reasons are, of course, Walmart is non-union. My store’s business has suffered for years because of Walmart and the Wincos and has since closed up in July, and now I have to commute to Pinole and I am not happy.

I think that is a great idea for the city to look at changing zoning regulations on large properties. I am for it. I could go on, but will save it for the city council meeting, so bring it on, the people of Brentwood!

We used to live in the sub division off of Hillcrest and Country Hills called the Parklands. For 9 years was a sign that said,"Raleys coming soon." We were SO excited because they carry a few things that the Lucky did not sell (and there was no Lucky!.) Well, to make a long story short, we were not paying attention (we believed the sign) and one day there is a 7-11 and a Wal Mart. Between the waterless creek and the Wal Mart National policy of INVITING Motor Homes to use their parking lots to stop over, and kids who had schedules that make it SEEM like there were always kids out of school, and one very scary experience there, not to mention the garbage from the McDonald's inside the store, I began to show people that we had (IN MY OPINION-TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT until it happens to you) been DOWNGRADED to a "Wal Mart neighborhood. I am NOT one of the many people who talk badly about the place and then shop there. Just the one time when it first opened. I found a Mgr. and told him that I would never be back and that I hoped they would fulfill the promise they made to the City of Antioch to at least clean up the parking lot.. Many years ago they stopped the Motor Home deal and MANY years ago we moved because of the noise, the bright lights. the kids who took over Knoll Park with their drug sales, their coital activity right out in broad daylight and of course the "ice cream truck."

For 16 years we had a WONDERFUL NEIGHBORHOOD and I know that the people who bought our home have great neighbors on each side, but we felt if we did not move when we did, we might get stuck. And due to personal reasons, I needed to be in a single story home where I felt safe, and in a better school district in order to have better neighbors. Our retirement community in Discovery Bay is wonderful. One does not have to play golf to enjoy the wonderful wild life, the raptors, the otters, and the other people who have the same respect for neighbors we have. And the Safeway is 1.4 miles away and is so much safer, the CVS is clean and we know all of our neighbors. And there is a limit on Section 8 and renters in general due to the small number of people in the Community.

Again, BRENTWOOD, fight like Hell. Wal Mart has given up before. And they did not get their 2nd story in Antioch even though I hear they sell food. But Target sells food and other things, in a far more pleasant environment. To be truthful, though, we shop primarily at theTracy COSTCO because it is closer, convenient and there is a mall right there. But fight because your Streets of Brentwood won't mean a thing if you can even see a Wal Mart. You do not need one. NO ONE NEEDS ONE. THEY ARE NOT GOOD NEIGHBORS. OBVIOUSLY we did not move solely to get away from the Wal Mart but it played a large part-that and Knoll Park.
