Crossings Safeway Shopping Center merchants in Antioch will host their second annual Community Appreciation Day and Child Safety and Anti-Abduction Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A free child-safety seminar and anti-abduction workshop will feature martial arts instruction from Delta One Martial Arts and presentations from members of the Oakland Police Department and the San Francisco Fire Department.

The event will also offer free laminated ID cards for all children, which will include their picture and right thumbprint, and a free fitness and self-defense seminar for women.

Local hip hop dance group Born-2-Gig is scheduled to perform, and Antioch City Councilmember Martha Parsons, Antioch Unified School District Vice President Walter Ruehlig, and Contra Costa County School Board candidate Cynthia Ruehlig will be available for a meet-and-greet.

Sprint will offer special discounts on cell phones while other merchants will offer special discounts and giveaways, and free hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available.

Crossings Safeway Shopping Center is located on the corner of Hillcrest Avenue and Deer Valley Road.
