Cancer survivors and their families and friends came together recently to celebrate the fourth annual National Cancer Survivors Day – Quest for a Cure – organized by Oakley resident and breast cancer survivor Lupe Linda Rios and held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Vocalist Hannah Socorro Rios sang a beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace” and “From This Moment On.” The keynote speakers included 9-year cancer survivor, Lupe Linda Rios, and representatives from La Clinica De La Raza. Additional musical talent was provided by Eddie Ybarras’ DJ Truespoke, El Mariachi Latino and Hugh Carpenter’s Star Line Karaoke. Father Olman Solis gave the benediction.

Among those in attendance were Oakley Mayor Pat Anderson and City Council members. Lucky Store, Los Charros restaurant, Oakley Centro Mart and Starbuck’s in Oakley donated the food, and La Casa de Palmar Market donated a piñata. A fun time was had by all.
