Brentwood resident Charlie Ray Jones went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 due to complications from pneumonia and Lewy body dementia.

Charlie was born in Wapanucka, Okla. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Saratoga during WWII. He retired after 40 years with USS Steel in Pittsburg. After his retirement he farmed almonds.

Charlie loved working and staying busy. He traveled around the United States (including Hawaii) and Europe with his son Ken and his family. He was most proud of building houses in Pine Mt. Lake with his son Ron. Charlie served as a deacon in the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Oakley and most recently in the Brentwood Missionary Baptist Church.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruby Lois (Watson) Jones; sons: Ken Jones (Carmen) and Ron Jones (Phyllis); and daughter: Elaine (Joe) Morgan. He leaves behind six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is survived by his brother George Jones of Antioch. His parents, Charlie and Alfred Jones, preceded him in death as did one grandchild.

Friends and family attended a visitation on March 15 at the Brentwood Funeral Home. A funeral service was held on March 16 at the Brentwood Missionary Baptist Church. A burial followed at the Brentwood cemetery.
