Brentwood has grown rapidly and beautifully. We have magnificent city buildings, a well-planned Senior Activity Center, numerous city parks and widened, old-fashioned city streets. Evidently, we have an astute and active City Council and Planning Commission.
Yes, we have our mandated “fee” increase July 1 for water and sewage treatment. This annual increase of 7½ percent was started in 2007, lasting to 2013. Extensive studies indicated that Brentwood needed an annual increase (in July) to maintain and put on the bonds; 4 percent was needed to maintain the system and 3½ percent to cover anticipated inflation. Check the 2007 study.
Unfortunately, the inflation did not continue. Hopefully, the City Council would realize and give the ratepayers a needed break. Prudent planning, but in retrospect: overplanning. Note: Livermore, Antioch and Pleasanton have lower water rates. Concord, Dublin, San Ramon and Antioch have lower water treatment rates.
We need more transparency. What do you think?
