This year’s CornFest, scheduled for July 13 through 15, will be held at the corner of Brentwood Boulevard and Technology Way, near Jack in the Box.
Although construction of the new downtown Civic Center was recently completed, a project that forced the CornFest to relocate from downtown last year, the city and Chamber of Commerce are reluctant to subject the pristine landscape on Second Street to the beating likely to be dealt out by the thousands attending this year’s event.
To make this year’s event extra special, the chamber is setting its sights on an ambitious goal. The Guinness World Record for the Most People Husking Corn – currently held by Southern California’s Knott’s Berry Farm at 351 – is a mark CornFest officials believe they can beat.
“We wanted to do something fun for the 20th anniversary,” said Chamber Board Member Dirk Zeigler. “We’re still working out all the details, but we plan to attempt to break the record sometime on Saturday afternoon.”
The Chamber will also be marking the CornFest’s 20th birthday with an expanded fireworks show on Friday, July 13 at 9:40 p.m.
“We’re looking forward to another exciting year,” said Chamber Event Coordinator Jilda Fairhurst. “We’re going to put on a big fireworks show, and we’ve got a great line up of entertainment. And of course, there will be plenty of corn.”
This year’s CornFest will feature traditional attractions such as the carnival and kids’ zone. More than 200 vendors will set up shop, and live entertainment will occupy two stages. This year’s lineup is scheduled to include Public Eye, Pablo Cruise, Rodeo House and Malo.
