The Texaco Country Showdown is a four-level competition sponsored by local country music radio stations. Local winners advance to the state competition for a chance to win $1,000 and the opportunity to compete in one of five regional events. Regional winners win an all-expenses paid trip to the national final at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, where the artists vie for the $100,000 grand prize and the title of Best New Act in Country Music.
The Texaco Country Showdown is the largest and longest-running county music talent search in the nation. Icons such as Garth Brooks, Martina McBride, Billy Ray Cyrus and Sara Evans participated in the Showdown at one point in their careers and look back on it as a valuable part of their journey that ultimately led to super-stardom.
