“At the last (CSD) meeting, the board created three committees where they are seeking public input and advice,” said General Manager Rick Howard. “Each committee will consist of two members of the board and three members of the public. We’re looking forward to getting some qualified and enthusiastic applicants.”
Community Center Committee
The Town of Discovery Bay CSD would like to locate a community center within the town limits that helps meet the recreational needs of the community. The Community Center Committee, chaired by directors Ray Tetreault and Chris Steele, will assist the board of directors with the feasibility, planning, programming, location and ongoing operations of the proposed center. Residents who possess skill sets in project planning, economic feasibility, construction, construction management and those interested in the future development of a community center in Discovery Bay are encouraged to submit a letter of interest. The committee will conclude its efforts with a final recommendation to the board by December of 2011.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee will assist the district in formulating a variety of methods of information delivery to residents. The committee, chaired by President Kevin Graves and Director Chris Steele, will explore prospects of enhancing the effectiveness of the district’s website, public outreach, social media methods of communication, and press interaction. Residents who possess skill sets in communications, marketing, website development and strategic planning are encouraged to submit a letter of interest. The committee will conclude its efforts with a final recommendation to the Board in June of 2011.
Fiscal Year 2011-12 Budget Committee
The Budget Review Committee will analyze and provide feedback, and make recommendations to the board on budgetary matters facing the board beginning in July of 2011. The committee, chaired by directors Mark Simon and Ray Tetreault, will review past and current budgets in order to gain an understanding of the many facets of the district’s financial position. Topics for discussion and review will include revenues, expenditures, capital projects, sustainability and strategic financial planning. Residents who possess skill sets specific to public finance or accounting are encouraged to submit a letter of interest. The committee will conclude its efforts with a final recommendation to the Board in June of 2011.
“The whole idea behind this was to get the community involved and to solicit some great ideas from residents,” said Graves. “I look forward to a working on the committee I am involved with and working with members of the community.”
The CSD Board will make the final committee selections. Deadline for applications is March 11.
