Two Oakley Eagle Scouts recently received proclamations from the City of Oakley publicly recognizing their service achievements.

Mayor Carol Rios presented honorary certificates to George “Chip” Overturf and Michael Lumssden, both of Boy Scout Troup 298, at the Sept. 8 City Council meeting attended by family and friends. Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Boy Scouts.

Lumsden, a Freedom High School graduate, earned his Eagle rank in May following the completion of his Eagle Scout project. The project created new toy boxes for the kindergarten classes at his alma mater, Laurel Elementary School. Lumsden also built four bookshelves for the school’s library and held a fundraiser at Barnes & Noble to raise money to buy books to fill the new shelves.

Overturf, a senior at Freedom High School, earned Eagle rank in July after he established a community vegetable garden at St. Alban’s Church in Brentwood.
