Investigators from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), along with Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies, recently posted a notice of suspension at the El Rodeo Bar and Restaurant, located at 3315 Willow Pass Road in Bay Point.

The action follows a lengthy investigation involving ABC and the County Sheriff's Department.

In July of 2006, one employee and five patrons at the El Rodeo were arrested for sales and possession of drugs. During the investigation, undercover investigators were able to make purchases of illegal drugs from the bar employees and patrons on several occasions.

The two agencies initiated the investigation due to heightened concern in the community. ABC investigators went undercover multiple times to develop information that resulted in the recent disciplinary action.

The suspension notice at El Rodeo imposes an indefinite prohibition of alcohol sales and service at the location. It will be in effect for a period of 180 days to permit the transfer of the license to a person or persons (non-blood relative or relatives related by marriage) and premises outside the city limits (Bay Point) acceptable to ABC, plus a 30-day suspension.

The license will be suspended indefinitely until it is transferred. ABC will scrutinize any applicant to verify personal qualification and ability to conduct business in full compliance with the ABC Act.

ABC is a department of the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, which is under the direction of Secretary Dale E. Bonner, a member of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's cabinet.
