The East County Cheetahs Amateur Athletic Union track team awaits the starting gun in its inaugural competition Saturday – the Comet’s Meet, held at Contra Costa College in San Pablo.

The youth all-comers meet – comprising runners 4 through 18 – requires AAU membership ($14 at www.aausports.org) but no entrance fee. Proceeds from concessions support the Contra Costa College Athletic Department.

The East County Cheetahs continue to accept new athletes. The organization requests a $100 per athlete donation to participate. Parents can call Cris Houston at 925-478-1603, e-mail cheetahs@rocketmail.com, or attend a practice to sign up. The Cheetahs practice Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. on the Pittsburg High School track.
