The Friends of Oakley Christmas Basket program was hit by thieves Tuesday, losing $4,000 in toys and food collected for distribution to hundreds of local families. Friends of Oakley President and Oakley Mayor Jim Frazier said 95 percent of the collected toys and half of the donated food had been stolen. He said he's confident the community will help the effort recover, however, and the organization will still be able to provide for 300 families and 200 seniors who are signed up for the program.

Donations of toys and nonperishable food items may be made in barrels at the following locations:

• Bank of the West, 2195 Main St.

• Black Bear Diner, 3201 Main St.

• Delta Vista Middle School, 4901 Frank Hengel Way

• Diamond Hills Sports Club, 1510 Neroly Road

• ECC Bank (Bank of Agriculture and Commerce), 3775 Main St.

• Hardcastle RV, 1189 Main St.

• Iron House Elementary School, 4801 Frank Hengel Way

• Laurel Elementary School, 1141 Laurel Road

• Mike’s Beef ’N’ Brew, 2083 Main St.

• Oakley City Hall, 3231 Main St.

• Oakley Disposal, 3221 Main St.

• Oakley Elementary School, 501 Norcross Lane

• O’Hara Park Middle School, 1100 O’Hara Ave.

• Pompei Nursery, 4701 Main St.

• Stonecrest Lending, 2005 Main St., Suite C

• Vintage Parkway Elementary School, 1000 Vintage Parkway

Volunteers will still be needed for sorting and packing Christmas baskets on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at O’Hara Park Middle School. Volunteers will also been needed during the distribution event the following afternoon. For more information, visit www.friendsofoakley.com.

Peace. Love. Swap (East Contra Costa County) is holding a Holiday Swap & Shop event (Clothing & Gear Swap and Holiday Boutique) on Saturday, December 3rd from 3-6pm in Downtown Brentwood.

ALL of the proceeds from admission at this event will go to help get food and gifts that were stolen!

How the event works: Bring any gently used clothes for baby, kids, teens, men and women (including maternity) and toys, books, blankets, high chairs, bikes, games…. you name it, you can bring it as long as it is clean and in good working order! There will also be a swap section for holiday decorations and home décor.

Don’t have stuff to swap? That’s ok too… there will be ±10 unique vendors onsite for our holiday boutique area… Make sure to wear your festive outfits as there will be a photographer at the event taking fun holiday pictures at the event! Families can bring their items from 3-4pm and then swap with other families from 4-6pm!

This is a fun, green and philanthropic event that supports the communities of East Contra Costa County and beyond!

Families can drop off items at Little Miss Everything in Downtown Brentwood. The clothing and gear swap is Saturday Dec, 3rd from 3-6 but families can make donations of food or gifts anytime.

Visit: www.peaceloveswap.com to learn more about the clothing and gear swaps or check out the event page on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/events/309265012435651/.

In addition, peace.love.swap will be donating leftover gently used items to the ‘Peace Closet’. The peace closet is a store front location in Brentwood that offers families in need clothes, blankets and other misc items free of charge. The ‘store’ is open daily until Dec 31st as long as there is still a supply of items to keep it open.

If you can help in any way or would like to volunteer at the event please let me know. Thank you for your support!

Best, Angelina
