Coby and Sonia moved to Discovery Bay six years ago and decided four years ago to buy this charming Mediterranean house. Coby is in construction, making landscape and hardscape no obstacle. In front of his garage he built a raised bed and planted red and variegated leaf cannas, blue Cape Pumbado, bird of paradise and Peter Pan lilly of the Nile. Purple verbena trails down the front of the planter.
Queen palms bookend the planter. In front of the planter is a vibrant green lawn bordered by river rock ground cover. To the left, bordering the neighbors, are queen palms and flax. Flagstone is imbedded in the ground leading to the side gates. Day lilies are planted in the river rock on each side of the driveway. The driveway sweeps across the front entrance, giving it a courtyard feel.
Two potted sago palms sit on either side of a bench waiting to be occupied for a little respite. A bougainvillea has a good hold on the wall between the house and garage. The right side of the driveway reflects some of the plants from the left side with the addition of decorative grasses, red and variegated flax, moraea, society garlic and Coby's pride and joy, a red-tipped yucca from Arizona.
The Garden Home of the Month winner is presented with a Certificate of Appreciation, and a Home of the Month sign is placed in the front. The winners also receive a $25 gift card from Village Nursery in Brentwood.
Next to be judged will be the houses around Point of Timber School. Call Rebecca Ferguson at 516-1460 for any inquiries regarding Garden Club membership.
