The Brentwood PONY League Pinto Jr. division championship was claimed recently by the Giants, which finished third in regular season play but got hot at the right time. The 10-5-1 Giants, coached by Darryl Weeden and Cindy Mallet, also exemplified the true meaning of good sportsmanship and fair play.
The championship game against the Braves was a high-scoring roller-coaster ride. At the end of the second inning, the Giants were down by nine runs. Following a pep talk by Coach Darryl, outstanding defensive play ignited the Giants’ comeback. Going into the sixth inning, the Giants had closed the gap to two runs. They dug in at the plate and proceeded to put nine runs on the scoreboard.
The Braves answered with five runs of their own, but fell short by a score of 20-18 – and the championship celebration was on. Congratulations, Giants!
