Homicide investigation

The Oakley Police Department and detectives from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff are continuing to investigate a homicide that occurred in the city of Oakley.

On Sunday morning, Oct. 28, at 1:40 a.m., police dispatch received a call of shots fired at the Broken Wheel Cocktail Lounge at 5620 Main St. Officers responded and found a 28-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was transported to Sutter Delta Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Clay Ward of Pittsburg. The cause of death is gunshot wounds to the head.

Detectives are unaware of a motive for the shooting but say Ward was shot after an altercation at a party at the establishment. No suspects have been identified. Those with information regarding this case should call 925-313-2648. Anonymous tips may be left at 866-846-3592.
