I bought identify theft protection over the weekend.  Had my home locks rekeyed.  We are in the process of restoring my wife’s credit cards, medical cards, cell phone and will continue replacing as much of the items taken as we can.  I will probably reprint the family pictures she carried in her wallet.  As a interesting point,  I am a part of the neighborhood watch program.  I have the sign in my window.  I also volunteer for the community, habitat for humanity and Junior achievement and I pay a great deal in taxes, vote each year, watch the Tuesday City Council meetings and help my neighbors when I can. I really do not want to give up on Antioch.

But when I see that Antioch is double the national average in property crime alone (see: http://www.bestplaces.net/crime/) , it makes me sick.  As I understand it, we may only have 12-15 police officers on the street per shift .  If that is true, wow, no wonder we are losing the battle. I know the police can’t do it all alone, we can help and we should and having more police on the street would not have stopped what happened to my wife.  But, it might deter other crimes from happening.  rest assured I will be attending the next quality of life forum or any other event that might allow my voice to be added to others asking for more public safety officers.

In looking at the Antioch 2009 crime statistics compared to 2008 from the Antioch Police Website (http://www.ci.antioch.ca.us/CityGov/Police/Crime-Maps/current-stats.pdf) you can draw your own opinion.  I am 100% willing to do whatever I can to change this trend and help others take back our city.  I am just not sure what else I can do to help.
