It’s your town

Editor:

Monday morning I was shocked, driving through our local Safeway parking lot, by all the empty beverage containers, discarded papers and other debris waiting for “someone” to pick the crap up.

I know Brentwood residents have historically taken pride in our community, but over the past several years it appears that pride has gone by the wayside. Do people living here not recognize that this is their town and should care about how it looks? I know we’ve had a lot of new families move in from other places and I’m left to wonder if this is how they left their previous town: cluttered with discarded debris.

The post office on Oak Street has the same problem. I’ve seen people just toss unwanted papers on the ground. Maybe we need a reminder that this is a reflection of who were are and how we live and that we’re supposed to be civilized. If you can’t take pride in where you live, maybe you might want to think about moving … or maybe I should think about moving to a place where pride in one’s community still means something.

With the Fourth of July coming up, I shudder at the thought of how much crap some people will be haphazardly tossing out. Pride in community, people!

A caring Brentwood citizen,

Catherine Lemmings, Brentwood

I agree 100% with your statement... "If you can’t take pride in where you live, maybe you might want to think about moving".
