The Antioch Sports Legends Program, under the auspices of the Antioch Historical Society, has been operational since March of 2006 with approximately 40 volunteers who make up the Sports Legends Committee.

The committee is organized into five subcommittees: research, achievement and recognition; display design and artifact collection; public relations and recruitment; finance and fund-raising; and enshrinement dinner.

Volunteers interested in assisting with this program are invited to attend the Antioch Sports Legends Committee's meeting the first Wednesday of each month starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Antioch Historical Museum, 415 W. Fourth St. in Antioch.

The committee has started the early stages of development with the $41,517.17 check from a golf tournament fund-raising effort. An estimated additional $50,000 will need to be raised to complete this project by October, when the first athletes will be inducted into the Antioch Sports Legends Hall.

Individuals, businesses, corporations and grant foundations are invited to send tax-deductible donations to: Antioch Sports Legends Program, P.O. Box 1033, Antioch, CA 94531. For more information, contact Eddie Beaudin at 383-4979 or Tom Menasco at 325-3255.
