Liberty High School science teacher Julie Hubbard will spend her summer doing what she loves: honing her scientific research skills at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (CAMS).

CAMS is home to the most productive AMS facility in the world, and Hubbard was selected by the LLNL to complete a summer internship that involves an exceptionally sensitive technique for measuring concentrations of isotopes in small samples.

Hubbard has always been an avid proponent of continuing education, and feels that it is essential for teachers to gain cutting-edge scientific training to enhance their teaching in the classroom. She also wants to thank Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which granted $5,000 earlier this year to place mini-computers in the Liberty High School science lab, for allowing current classroom teachers to work on interesting and challenging research projects.
