"Reading is used in every task in life. One of the library's objectives is to make literacy a lifelong goal," said Librarian Kathy Middleton.
About six Antioch High School teens showed up on a recent Tuesday, all of them interested and involved in the discussion.
"I am their leader and I brought them here," said Brandon Foster. "I read all the time. I like adventure and mystery books. I encourage students to come over. I feel like I have a family here."
Harold McKeneely, also known as the artist, has a laid-back attitude toward the program. "I come to chill," he said. "I like the snacks, too. After school, they don't feed you too much. But I am going to Cal and join the NBA; be a basketball player, if I don't go into design."
"The library is promoting reading as enjoyable," said Middleton. "There are so many topics to learn about. They can come to the library to find it out. We are also training teens to use the library computer databases for research for college."
A teen planning session for a Library Open House will be held on April 7 at 2 p.m. A Henna Tattoo Workshop by Darcy of San Francisco will be held on April 24 at 4 p.m. Space is limited to 20 participants. A library knitting group (for all levels) takes place every third Saturday
at 1:30 p.m.
