The East County Lions’ Scouts squad came out on top in a recent hard-fought scrimmage against the Concord Cobras. QB Cooper Gardner scored the game’s only touchdown.

The Lions moved the ball consistently behind the blocking of Conner Gasperson, Raymond Alvarez, Bryant Garcia, Kevin Moore and Zachary Hardman. Quarterbacks Jay Butterfield and Gardner completed key passes to Sean Bradley and Logan Shirk. Running backs Jack Murphy, Gaudie Campbell, Victor Montez, Jacobi Padilla and Edgerrin Flores led the Lion running attack.

Lion defenders Justin Bergen, Eric Bergen, Cole Gregerson, Dalton Houston, Giovanni Larrea, Dante Lucido and Nicholas Laughlin made big hits. Laughlin recovered three fumbles.

The East County Pee Wee team improved to 6-1 behind the rushing attack of Dominic Espino, Michael Goodwin, Jesse Gregerson and Ryan Payne. Joe Sweeney added a touchdown pass to Payne as the Lions beat Concord 38-6. Dominic Dominguez, Isaiah Clement and Diovae Hamilton made key blocks. The Lion defense was led by Kyle Coonan, Jacob Knight, Dewey Martin and Brandon Tatum.

The 6-1 Jr. Midgets’ star running back John Velasco chalked up 130 yards and two TDs. Savonte Perry also scored twice; Martell Banks notched one TD and kicker Giovanni Graham nailed the extra point. The staunch Jr. Midget D held Concord to a mere three first downs. Alex Espino added a sack to bring his total to six for the season.
