Fishing facilities at the south side of the Los Vaqueros Reservoir will reopen to the public Monday, Oct. 15, after being closed for about a year due to reservoir enlargement construction.

Visitors will have full access to the relocated Marina building, new boat docks, fishing piers and hiking trails. Boat rentals will resume, including some upgrades to the fleet, and the reservoir will be stocked with trout prior to the reopening.

“The Contra Costa Water District is excited to have its improved Marina facilities open to the public once again,” said Board President Joe Campbell. “During construction to expand the reservoir, fishing remained available along the shoreline and proved to be very popular. But now we can offer much more, and we’re pleased to see boats back in the water.”

Starting Monday, visitors will be able to purchase fishing licenses, bait and boat rentals at the Marina, just like they did before the closure. Visitors will also be able to enjoy landscaped, shaded picnic areas constructed near the Marina.

The reservoir is currently holding 100,000 acre-feet of water, which was the maximum capacity for the original reservoir. The enlarged reservoir can hold up to 160,000 acre-feet. Filling to a higher level is expected to begin this winter, depending on rain, snowfall and water quality in the Delta.

In addition to the Marina facilities, most trails in the watershed are open. There are, however, a few trails that remain closed while final work is being completed. The public is asked to respect those posted trail closures.

Reservoir hours for October are Mondays through Sundays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
