The Press this week received this letter from Ed McClelland of Discovery Bay, who participated in the What A Country Challenge troop-support event on June 27, and who has sent many hundreds of boxes of goodies to troops serving overseas. The letter is from a group of Marines who have received some of those packages, and was accompanied by photos of the men. We hope the smiles on these mens’ faces will inspire others to do the same. To contact Ed, e-mail dockdocktor@yahoo.com.

Hey Ed,

I’m Daniel, the guy you’re sending the packages to. Well, I just like to say that my Marines and I appreciate your care packages very much. The cigarillos were a nice touch, along with all the other goodies. Rick sent me a link to your Web site and I must say that it is such a great feeling to know that people like yourself can take time out of their schedule to support us. Acts of kindness like this can really boost the morale for those of us serving on forward ground. I really hope that your party for the troops is a great success, and trust me, I wish that I could be partying with you guys, too!

Respectfully,

Daniel De Lashmutt
