Not so bike-friendly

Editor:

That letter was perfect (“Bike lanes are for bikes,” July 20). I could not agree more. I ride down Walnut to Central and along Marsh Creek every day and my family fears for my safety.

Riding in the bike lane along Walnut is awful. I called the city engineer to ask about parking in the bike lane and was told they had to cut a “deal” with residents along that roadway. A real estate company near the butcher has been rude, to say the least. An employee parks his car in the bike lane and opens both doors, blocking both the sidewalk and bike lane. I e-mailed the real estate office and the owner never responded.

We have just as much right on the city streets. In fact, I try and do my part by making local runs on my bike and not polluting the town any more than it already is. I see the signs advertising bike friendliness, but this is not the truth about this city.
