The eight-week summer season begins the week of July 4. Teams play Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakley’s Creekside Park. John Newman will be taking the reins from Juan Chavez as league president.
“There was nobody else to keep doing it,” said Newman. “I was offered the job and it seemed like a great opportunity to contribute to the community.”
The biggest difference between seasons one and two is that in the inaugural season, teams played every other week, while this season they’ll play every week. While the additional games will make the league more competitive, Newman was careful to point out that the league won’t lose the element of fun.
The total number of teams is currently unknown, but the league’s maximum is 24 teams, each of which can carry as many as eight players.
The fee to join the league is $20 per player or $150 per team. While the game is fun, Newman wants people to know that the competition is only a part of the bocce experience. “We also barbecue,” Newman said. “It’s a great way for neighbors and friends to get together and meet new people.”
