Editor:

There have been rumors going around Oakley that the Oakley/Delta Lions Club is being dissolved and closing their doors. Being a member for nearly two decades, I’d like to set the record straight. We are not!

It is true that our membership is down over previous years, but we are strong and are doing well financially. We have continued to contribute to our local community as well as on a national and international basis. It is true that we are in a rebuilding process and are inviting people to join us in our effort to make Oakley a better place to live and help those in need. The economy has been down and so has participation in nonprofits as well.

I don’t know who started this rumor, but it is false. We have a new incoming president, Lion Jeff Nickel, and a new structure in the club, and during the course of this coming year, which spans from July till next June we are working to rebuild this club and have every intention to emerge stronger than ever.

We invite anyone from the community to come check us out and see what we are doing and think about how they may be able to contribute in making our community a better place to live. It doesn’t take much money or time, but the time spent is invaluable.

If you would like more information, you may contact incoming President Lion Jeff at jpnickel@comcast.net or call 925-625-5911.
