The sound of oompah, the aroma of sizzling bratwurst and cries of “ein Prosit” herald the arrival of Parents of Playmakers (POPs) Oktoberfest on Saturday Oct. 22 from 6-11 p.m. at the Brentwood Senior Center, 193 Griffith Lane.

“This is POPs biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Helen Dixon, director of Theatre Arts at Liberty High School. “If it weren’t for this event, the tradition of producing great musicals at Liberty would quite literally end. It’s really important for people who appreciate the work we do to support this event.”

POPS Secretary Lonnie Veitch echoed Dixon’s sentiment. “I have been to all the Oktoberfest events, and they were great fun,” she said. “There is wonderful food and music. It really is the only way we can continue having musicals in the drama program. The income from this fundraiser pays for the stipends for the tech director, vocal director, choreographer and the conductor of the pit band for the spring musical.”

Catering for the event is provided by Christine Roux-Stanick of Christine’s Cuisine. A homemade German dinner featuring pork, sauerkraut and a soft drink will be the bill of fare. A no-host bar will be serving wine and Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest beer. The event also features a live band, raffles and silent and live auctions.

Admission is $25; $160 for a table of eight. Visit www.libertyunion.schoolwires.net/playmakers, click on the Seat Yourself tab and go to Oktoberfest on the calendar.
