The theme might have been "It's a Small World," but the enthusiasm was big during last weekend's Discovery Bay Chamber of Commerce Parade of Lights extravaganza.

More than 1,400 participants drove, floated, danced and sang their way down the streets of Discovery Bay Boulevard as crowds lined the streets during the annual parade that officially marks the beginning of the holiday season.

Sarah Stothers, 10, came to the event with her grandparents, and despite the brisk, chilly weather, Sarah had a blast. "This is fun. We've had hot chocolate and hot dogs and candy," said Sarah, who occupied a curbside seat. "The lights are really pretty."

From Santa to Snoopy to riders on horseback and a PT Cruiser contingency of 21 colorfully decorated cars, there was something for everyone at the fifth annual parade.

Churches, schools and local organizations put on their Santa hats and joined in the fun. And since it is Discovery Bay, no parade would have been complete without a few floats sporting colorfully decorated palm trees, or a boat or two strewn with holiday lights.

All the entrants were winners, but the following are the judges' 30 best-of-the-best winners:
