More than 100 actors and technical crew join forces to present the stage version of “James and the Giant Peach” at Excelsior Middle School in performances running from Sept. 18 to 28.

Roald Dahl’s story traces the adventures of a little boy, James Trotter, whose happy life on the English seaside is rudely ended when his parents are killed by a rhinoceros and he goes to live with his two horrid aunts, Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. James saves the life of a spider and comes into possession of magic boiled crocodile tongues, after which an enormous peach starts to grow in the garden. Venturing inside the garden, James meets the spider and a number of new friends, including a ladybug, grasshopper, glow worm and centipede, who help him with his plan to make a journey to New York City.

The curtain goes up in the Excelsior Theater, 14301 Byron Highway in Byron, on Sept. 18, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m., and Sept. 22 at noon and 4 p.m. Tickets ($8) may be purchased online at www.edline.net/pages/excelsior_ms or one hour before showtime at the theater box office.

“James and the Giant Peach” is presented by Excelsior Middle School and the Excelsior Parents of the Arts Club.
