The Antioch Police Department has issued a press release stating that a Park Middle School teacher accused of inappropriately touching a male student may have fled to Mexico this week after officers questioned him about the allegations.

Charles Redmond, 63, an arts teacher at Park, allegedly made lewd comments to boy students and has been accused of touching an eighth-grade male student. The contact, Sgt. Diane Aguinaga wrote in a press release, was over the boy’s clothing.

Aguinaga wrote that after the Antioch Police Department began looking into the matter, Redmond left a note for his family and is believed to have fled to Mexico.

A $100,000 warrant for his arrest has been issued.

In a statement on the Antioch Unified School District website, Superintendent Donald Gill wrote that the district was made aware of these claims on Friday. Gill wrote that Redmond is currently on leave and will remain on leave indefinitely throughout the investigation.

“We are aware and concerned that this matter could have a negative effect on students, families and staff at Park Middle School and within the Antioch community,” Gill wrote. “As always, we continue to take every measure to provide for the safety and well-being of students at Park Middle School and throughout the Antioch Unified School District.”

Those with information regarding this investigation should call Detective Robert Green at 925-779-6932.
