Residents of Discovery Bay West are invited to attend a community forum regarding enhanced police services on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. at Timber Point Elementary School.

An enhanced police service is an extra tax paid by Discovery Bay West property owners in addition to their regular county property taxes.

To date, approximately $550,000 of enhanced polices services funds (P-6 funds) in the county coffers, allocated for immediate use, have not been spent.

Discovery Bay West residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on how those dollars should be spent for additional police services in their neighborhoods. Contra Costa County Supervisor Mary Piepho has said she wants to hear from the community before the county apportions the money to the sheriff’s department.

“This is an incredibly important issue that will affect everyone living in the Discovery Bay West area,” said Lakeshore resident Bob Mankin. “I hope everyone living here (Discovery Bay West) will come out and offer their opinions and lend their voices to the process. We are being double taxed for police services and currently receiving nothing for those tax dollars. This is our opportunity to address that.”
