Embracing its new location in San Francisco’s Design District, the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter’s 2013 Red Cross Gala – Hope By Design – will highlight the talents, creativity and imagination of the Bay Area’s top designers. The event is held Saturday, April 6 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Concourse Exhibit Center, 635 Eighth St. in San Francisco.
The designers will create individual tablescapes that uniquely celebrate the Red Cross mission. Every day in the Bay Area, the American Red Cross gives hope to residents faced with disaster, and works with the community to design a plan, helping to prevent and prepare for emergencies. In the words of a Red Cross press release, “When disaster strikes the Bay Area, we will have hope – not by accident, but by design.”
This year’s Red Cross Gala, presented by Dignity Health, Kaiser Permanente and Wells Fargo Bank, will honor Lloyd Dean, CEO of Dignity Health, as the American Red Cross Bay Area Humanitarian CEO of the Year for his commitment to providing immediate humanitarian assistance to those in need. A nationally recognized leader within and beyond the field of health care, Dean oversees Dignity Health – one of the nation’s five largest health care systems operating a 16-state network of nearly 11,000 physicians, 56,000 employees and more than 300 care centers. Under his leadership, Dignity Health and the American Red Cross have developed a longstanding partnership based on the mutual goal of delivering humanitarian relief both locally and around the world in times of emergency.
Designers will work within a set of color- and space-related parameters and incorporate at least one Red Cross per table. They may bring in alternative items to be replaced prior to dinner service, creating unique tables and experiences for the event’s guests. Interested designers are asked to submit an application and if chosen, will be featured during the gala and at a preview party, which will allow those in the design community, including key designed-focused publications, to preview the tables the night before the gala. Civic leaders, corporate sponsors and the Bay Area’s leading philanthropists will gather for the black-tie festivities that feature cocktails, dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions and a raffle drawing. The event aims to engage business leaders and major donors in the life-saving mission of the Red Cross. The 2012 Red Cross Gala raised more than $600,000 for the local chapter.
Tickets are $450. To learn more, call 888-4-HELP-BAY (888-443-5722) or visit www.redcrossbayarea.org.
