The Antioch girls basketball team upset Heritage Friday with a 48-41 win for the Panthers’ second league victory of the season.

The Patriots, who have gotten off to slow starts previously this season, were done in by a first quarter in which they were outscored 5-10. But they made up for it in the next period, scoring 15 points to close the gap to three points at the half. The Panthers were able to hold on in the second half, however, outscoring Heritage by one point in the third quarter and three more in the final frame.

High scorer for Heritage was last-year’s league MVP Khyia Slone with 13 points. Patriot star Kiana Caban fouled out and scored only seven. Freshman shooting sensation Lexi Campbell knocked down three three-pointers and scored 10.

The loss dropped Heritage to 3-2 in league play and 13-3 overall. The victory brought Antioch to 2-3 in league play and 7-8-1 overall.

Heritage hosted Freedom on Tuesday and travels to Deer Valley Friday, Jan. 22, and to Pittsburg on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Antioch hosted Pittsburg on Tuesday, travels to Liberty Friday and hosts Deer Valley on Jan. 26.
