My wife got a call tonight from the Costco near Summersville; someone had discovered her discarded purse in the parking lot today.
She drove over and picked it up and brought it home. The punks had taken everything of value and left just the things that they did not need. We did discover a number of clues however. They like on-line games (that means that they have to be somewhat younger) They tried to go on line to a website that has games and use our American Express Costco card, but it was rejected. The site is on-line is called Three Rings Design. From the Web I found out that Three Rings Design, Inc. is an online game developer that was founded on March 30, 2001 by Daniel James and Michael Bayne.
So, we have a little bit of our life history back, but strangely, they took our personal pictures out. That means they are or might be trying to forge fake ID’s. Possibly to get new credit cards in our names.
I did a bit of junior CSI and finger printed the plastic that was left in the purse and actually came up with several prints that I will turn over the Antioch Police Monday (it has to be Monday because the officer will not be back until then).
I also discovered that American Express has got to be the best at chasing these things. They have been polite, thoughtful and very open with what they have found and have said that they will pursue these crooks until this is resolved. In addition, even thought Costco management and employees were very helpful (compared to Wal-Mart), I discovered that Costco can’t tell me if someone tried to use the card there.
They also said that they do not have cameras at each checkout so even if the person was trying to use our card most likely they would not have been photographed. So I am sure they are passing on the loses in stolen goods or lost revenue due to fraud on to us consumers.
