Something special

Editor:

In the beginning of August, 2010 I left my hometown of Brentwood and moved to another small town not far from Tahoe, to be close to family, thinking that it isn’t the town that makes you happy but where you lay your head at night and having family close by that makes a place a home.

I have been out of Brentwood for two years and although things have changed visually with new buildings, hotels, water play parks, and more, there are things I look forward to every time I visit, like: knowing that I can stroll through downtown and Jose from the barbershop is going to holler, “Hey stranger, how’ve you been?!” On my way down Oak Street, Oscar from La Fuente is going to give me a friendly nod as I pick a table in his restaurant, that the same lady that has been manager of the Burger King since I was in high school is going to take my order and that I will always run into one of my old friends from The Press no matter where I go in town (sheesh, those newsies are everywhere!).

Two years out of this growing little town has shown me so much … it is definitely not just any friendly small town that can make you feel at home. Brentwood is something special.
