The TD Construction team’s more than 25 years of experience gives it an edge in the creation of a wide variety of structures, ranging from pool houses and pavilions to complete, custom homes. TD also serves as project manager for ground-up, customized yards. Its extensive professional network of quality architects, landscapers, pool designers and other companies help TD turn visions into realities.
“A lot of times we start with an old backyard, or sometimes just dirt,” said co-owner Mike Curtis, who enjoys the sense of accomplishment from managing a construction project. “You can see, weekly, the progress being made.”
Some of TD Construction’s more elaborate designs sound like they came right off the TV. Curtis recalled a Brentwood project that involved a custom putting green separated by a waterfall and brook running down to a koi pond.
Another TD project included a pool with a swim-through cave, in which sat a tequila bar and flat-screen TV. Swimmers could sit on underwater benches and enjoy a drink and a football game, all without leaving the pool. “That was a fun project,” said Curtis.
In addition to providing management, TD Construction built several structures on the property, including a covered barbecue area and a workshop complete with pneumatic tool hookups. During consultations, many customers begin questions with “Can we …?” Curtis stops them there. “We can do anything,” he said. “If you can dream it, I can find somebody who can build it.”
Not all of the company’s constructs are material for “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.” Most of its business comes in the form of kitchen expansions, bedroom add-ons, construction of outdoor trellises, and other everyday renovations. For project elements the company does not personally perform, such as pool installations, TD enlists associated companies to help.
“We know who the best guys are,” said Curtis. “If a customer comes to us, they have access to all that experience.” He sees TD Construction’s focused approach to business as one of its major assets. “We’ve found that you need to specialize. Be good. Be the best at what you do.”
TD Construction makes a point of breaking the stereotype that contractors don’t finish by their promised deadlines. “We are on time,” said Curtis. The company also prioritizes communication with clients. “We know what we’re doing, but it’s important that we let the customer know what we’re doing.”
The company’s focused approach and emphasis on quality have earned the praise of clientele and a steady influx of referrals. When TD takes new clients on tours of previous projects to help them visualize their own dream yards, their former customers are smiling, happy and still grateful years later.
Curtis enjoys the excitement generated by the successful completion of a project. “At the end of the process, we’ve got customers high-fiving us and telling the world.”
