Editor:

I am writing this letter to inform you of a remarkable thing that recently occurred in my second-grade classroom. One of my students, Connar, celebrated her eighth birthday two weeks ago. Like many other kids her age, she had a party with all of her classmates. Rather than asking for gifts for herself, she asked her friends to donate classroom supplies for our classroom.

Immediately following her party, Connar proudly came to school with her parents, presenting me with two overstuffed boxes of neatly packaged and sorted school supplies. The boxes were filled with pencils, scissors, glue sticks, rulers, markers and many other things. I am so deeply touched by Connar’s selfless act of generosity.

Over my many years of teaching in Brentwood, I have been given a lot of classroom materials as well as gifts from the hundreds of children I have taught. However, this gift from Connar is one that I will never forget. I always tell my students that they teach me just as much as I teach them. Connar has done just that.

We just wanted to thank you Ms. Snodgrass for writing this letter to the editor acknowledging Connar’s donation. We were so proud of her when she suggested this idea. She opened every present with the nervousness and excitement you would expect with any birthday gift. Every bag and box opened came with remarks such as, “Boy we sure could use this in class!” and “Yeah…another box of crayons!” The whole family joined in bagging and boxing up the supplies, getting them ready for her to take them to school. I almost think that she was more excited to give all the supplies to you, than she did opening them! Thank you again for your kind words and for all your hard work and dedication.

Sincerely,

The Pauline Family – Troy, Linda, Connar and Jordan
