Attention fashion designers, garage sale hunters, thrift store lovers, planet savers and spectators: the inaugural Trashy Fashion Show, sponsored by Sustainable Contra Costa, will be held Oct. 16 at Todos Santos Park in Concord.

Contestants must create stylish outfits according to the following categories:

THRIFTY AND NIFTY

Put together a secondhand outfit from pieces gathered from thrift stores or garage sales. Help demonstrate that shopping secondhand is fun, saves money, supports local businesses and nonprofits, and is a green way to go.

TRASHIQUE

A category tailored to the crafty and handy, contestants will show off their resourceful, fashion-designer side by creating an outfit from items that would otherwise be discarded or recycled.

Contestants will be divided into two divisions: youth (ages 10-19) and adult (20 and older). Spectators will pick the winners, who will strut their stuff on the main stage.

Prizes include gift certificates to local stores and restaurants, including Fin’s on the Square, the Old Spaghetti Factory, Bangkok Thai, Toscano’s, the Hot Dog Palace and Half Priced Books. A cash prize will be awarded to the overall Best of Show.

Registration forms are available at the Sustainable Contra Costa booth at the Thursday Farmers’ Market at Todos Santos Park or on the Sustainable Contra Costa Web site, www.sustainablecoco.org.

Sustainable Contra Costa educates, connects and provides resources for local citizens, businesses, and governments – enabling them to live and operate in a way that sustains the health and wellbeing of our environment, economy and society.
