After winning the East Diablo League Championship with a 10-0 record, the fifth-grade girls American league CYO basketball team at Holy Rosary entered the playoffs looking to keep its perfect record intact.

Against St. Bonaventure and St. Francis, both of Concord, the Holy Rosary Lady Trojans earned convincing victories thanks to a complete team effort. Guards Makenzie Cast and Jordan Nickola led the offense in both games, Cast scoring 16 points and Nickola adding 10 in opener. Asia Mays led the team in rebounding, pulling down 10 boards. Cast was on fire in the championship game, leading all scorers with 30 points on 14 of 19 shooting from field, hitting jumpers from all over the floor. Nickola added six points. Mays, Priscilla Chavez, Tunmi Da Silva and Derin Odunlami dominated the boards.

"Solid defense and good ball movement all year were the keys to the successful season," said head coach Jeff Cast. "This was the second year in a row that these girls went undefeated in East Diablo league, which is quite an accomplishment."

Earlier in the season the lady Trojans won a Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot Tournament as well.
