The Town of Discovery Bay Community Service District invites residents to volunteer for the town’s inaugural Earth Day festival – Get Your Green On. The event is held Saturday, April 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Slifer Park.

Volunteers will participate in environmental and earth-friendly activities including tree planting plus sensitive-wetlands maintenance and cleanup. The volunteers will then enjoy entertainment, food from local restaurants, informational displays and a family photo booth. Children can try their hand at kite making and kite flying, bounce houses, games, crafts and flowerpot planting. A Promise Tree will be stationed at the event – folks can write their pledges on tree leaves to increase their awareness and become more involved in environmental protection.

Also present will be local eco-friendly vendors such as the local garbage and recycling company County Vector Control; Contra Costa Storm Water; Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market; a hybrid car display; Veolia Water; and local landscaping companies.

“This will be a great Earth-friendly family opportunity for residents and guests alike to volunteer and learn more about environmental issues pertaining to conservation and going green,” said CSD President Chris Steele.
