You, Me, We Oakley! is a cross-sector collaborative of the City of Oakley, Oakley Union Elementary School District, Liberty Union High School District, local churches and nonprofit organizations including the International Institute of the Bay Area, Contra Costa Interfaith Supporting Community Organization, and the Institute for Local Government.
The goal of You, Me, We Oakley! is to build an atmosphere of community and mutual respect and cooperation between all people regardless of race, religion, nationality, language, gender, or age.
“You, Me, We Oakley! is an exciting program that reflects the warm and friendly atmosphere that has always existed in Oakley,” said Councilmember Pat Anderson, who serves on the You, Me, We Oakley! Committee. “It embraces mutual respect for all citizens regardless of age, gender or background. It focuses on how our differences are assets and deserve celebration and acceptance, and puts action to those words. ”
All residents can be a part of You, Me, We Oakley! Simply go online and take the pledge to live out 10 welcoming principles such as treating others the way you would like to be treated, striving to understand cultures other than your own, and challenging myths and stereotypes that divide. Residents who want to become more engaged can volunteer to be a Welcoming Ambassador and help promote the welcoming principles.
