Brentwood native Zachary Curran has been promoted to the rank of staff sergeant and received a promotion to senior drill instructor for the 2nd Training Battalion, Echo Company stationed at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, where he has helped transform more than 500 civilians into U.S. Marines.

Formerly a helicopter avionics specialist, Curran has completed two tours in Iraq. His decorations include the Air Medal-Strike/Flight with a numeral four, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and he rates to wear the Combat Air Crew Medallion with three silver stars in lieu of nine consecutive awards.
