Longtime Brentwood resident and community volunteer Jeanne Adams passed away on Oct. 18. She was 89.

Adams was born in Iowa and raised with her six siblings on a farm in Corning, Calif. She married her husband, Jack, in 1944 and moved to Brentwood that same year.

A teacher in the Brentwood School District for 29 years and an active volunteer in the community, Adams was involved in a number of local organizations, including the Brentwood Women’s Club, the Brentwood Sorority, the East County Historical Society and the Brentwood Lions Club.

Throughout her life, Adams was honored by the community on numerous occasions. She was named Teacher of the Year and Brentwood Citizen of the Year, was twice selected as Grand Marshal for the Liberty High School Homecoming Parade and was recently awarded the Key to the City by the Brentwood City Council.

Adams and her husband were also active in the local schools. For more than 40 years they served as the public announcers for the Liberty High School football games and helped organize the annual Lions Club Fall Sports Awards Banquet.

Adams is survived by husband Jack and son Douglas, as well as siblings Keith, Betty and Bob. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law Jackie, granddaughters Vanessa Schasker and Sarah Adams, and son-in-law Todd, along with many friends and extended family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 11:30 a.m. in the clubhouse at Summerset I, 1675 Crispin Drive in Brentwood. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jeanne’s name to Adams Middle School, 401 American Ave., Brentwood, 94513.
